Underwriting
Our Underwriting team ensures your customers pay competitive rates for the coverage they receive by using medical information to evaluate applicants for coverage and assess risk on an individual basis. This entails:
- Providing underwriting services to all external and internal customers.
- Reviewing and interpreting medical questionnaires for insurability based on disclosed medical history.
We maintain high service levels, ensuring that we respond to you or your customers within four business days. In 2008, approximately 15,000 medical questionnaires were received in Underwriting and less than five per cent of applicants were denied coverage.
Your customers can appeal our decision in writing with new documentation to support their appeal. Our senior underwriting team works with our medical consultants to review all appeals.
We promote sustainable actions that reflect an awareness of the impact that our business strategies have on our economy, environment and society. As such, our Underwriting department operates paperless. Sending all information through fax and email, and saving medical questionnaires on secure sites means we help save 700 trees a year.
